Spring is coming!

Get your fingers in the dirt

Every gardener knows that this is the most difficult part of the gardening year. You've sharpened your tools and ordered your seeds, but you can't get out and start digging - the weather just won't cooperate.

To get your fingers in the dirt now, try this: take a styrofoam egg carton. Poke holes in each cup using a fork. Remove the top of the carton with a utility knife and put under the cups to use as a drainage tray.

Fill each cup with potting soil. Put a few seeds in each cup and water. Put on a sunny windowsill and keep moist. Within the week, your seeds should sprout and you'll have a head start on your garden.
