-	After a long winter, encouraging signs of spring have appeared. The snowdrops, crocuses and scilla are blooming, bright spots of color among all the dead leaves. Now's the time to uncover your garden and flower beds, rake up the leaves, sticks and dried plant stems from last season.	+

Late summer in the garden

Thanks to the cool summer, produce has been slower to ripen (and also to go bad, thankfully!) The Farmer’s Market is full of beautiful, fragrant bushels of peaches to can or freeze. Many home gardeners are just now getting tomatoes to ripen and it will be time to can them as well. There is plenty of local sweet corn , too, along with peppers, beets, late season raspberries and blackberries, basil for making homemade pesto and second or third planting green beans. Eat hearty and enjoy the last of the summer harvest!

Purdue Master Gardener

The Purdue Master Gardener Program provides residents of Indiana with training in a variety of horticultural subjects. Participants in the program then volunteer to serve as gardening educators in their communities. Local contact information is available on the web.
