SALVE!
The Riley Latin Club provides opportunities for all Latin students further develop their understanding of the Romans through a variety of activities, both in and out of school.
Membership is open to all Latin students, and since there are few formal meetings, activities are announced through the Latin classes.
The club plans special events to commemorate several of the Roman Dates such as the Ides of March, Saturnalia, and the founding of Rome.
The club occasionally goes for a meal in a local ethnic restaurant, arranges for typical foods before, during, or after school, and encourages students in special projects for the Foreign Language Fair.
During the football season, club members build and ride on a Latin float at the homecoming parade. At the end of the school year, the Latin Club provides the school with plaques for the Riley High School Teacher of the Year and the Riley High School Employee of the Year.
In addition to these events, each year the club does some activities to benefit the less fortunate. An annual food drive, held just after Thanksgiving, produces thousands of food items for the local community. Last year, the Latin Club also made a contribution to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund after the national tragedy by sending a check of more than $250.00.
