- The code applies to all students in middle and high school. Specific actions will usually be administered in the order shown; however, their use may be determined by the severity and repetitiveness of the act involved. School administrators shall have the right to implement any of the described consequences without respect to the order of listing of prescribed consequences. Other consequences may also be administered.
Bus Regulations:
Rules of student conduct apply on school corporation buses. Students riding buses are under the supervision and control of the school bus driver and at all times are subject to his/her discipline. The school bus driver will insure that these regulations are observed by passengers:

Follow directions given by bus driver.

Stay seated, facing front, in selected or assigned seats.
-
Keep hands, feet, books, pencils, etc., to yourself.
-
Speak quietly.
-
Do not smoke, eat, or drink.
-
Do not use abusive or obscene language.
Transportation is a privilege granted by the state and school district. Upon recommendation of the bus driver, school authorities may suspend or expel any pupil from riding on the bus if he/she refuses to conduct himself/herself in an appropriate manner.
Plagiarism:
- Students are responsible for doing their own homework, essay writing and/or research papers. When they sign their name to their assignment, it is presumed that they have generated this assignment, not another student. Copying another student's or author's work or ideas is unethical. Thus, students man not cheat, fabricate, plagiarize, or in any way copy another's work. If a rizing (reproducing ideas, words, or statements of another person without appropriate acknowledgement), that student will receive an F or 0 for that assignment with no opportunity to make it up.
Student Dress Standard/Hair Style Issues:
- In order to maintain an appropriate businesslike, academic atmosphere, parents are asked to monitor what their children wear to school. The school corporation retains the right to determine if a student's attire is inappropriate for the educational environment.
The following are NOT permitted to be worn on the school campus:

revealing or suggestive clothing

clothing & jewelry with messages about alcohol, drugs, tobacco, cult, racism, or profanity
-
clothing & jewelry affiliated with gang membership
-
hats ,bandannas, sweatbands, hairnets, "do rags", head scarves
-
pajamas, boxer shorts, biker shorts, hiphuggers or low waisted pants, micro mini skirts, short shorts (shorts and skirts must be one inch below fingertips)
-
bare midriffs, tank tops, tube tops, muscle shirts, spaghetti straps
-
sunglasses
-
slippers (shoes, sneakers or sandals must be worn at all times & appropriately fastened)
-
saggy pants or clothing that reveals/displays undergarments
-
hairstyles or hair coloring which draw undue attention to a student or cause distractions to the educational environment
-
braids, ponytails or dredlocks for male students
If a student chooses to dress inappropriately for school, parents will be called and the student will either be sent home to change their clothing or the parent will bring appropriate clothing to school.
Coats and Backpacks:
- School Board policy demands that coats and backpacks must remain in the lockers until dismissal.
Public Display of Affection:
- The inappropriate public display of affection is embarrassing to adults and other students. Students are expected to exercise self-control and respect for themselves and others. Specifically, kissing and other inappropriate displays of affection are not allowed in school. Students failing to respect this policy will be considered insubordinate and subject to the code of conduct.
Lockers/Locker Inspection Policy:
- All lockers are school property made available for student use, including hall, dressing room, laboratory classrooms and fine arts lockers, and may be searched at any time by school administration. Lockers are not rented to the student, and students have not expectation of privacy in the locker. Lockers may be individually searched when their contents draw attention (rotting or rank-smelling contents, items no longer being contained by the locker), when maintenance is necessary for the locker, or when there is a suspicion that the locker contains items that are prohibited at school or that the locker is not being used in accordance with school rules. Students must keep their lockers locked and keep combinations confidential. Contents of the locker are the responsibility of the student to whom the locker is assigned. Lockers are intended only for the storage of personal, school related items, school books and supplies, etc. They are neither designed nor expected to store valuable personal property such as leather jackets, cash, and/or other valuables. They may not be used to store property (other than books assigned to the student assigned to that locker), contraband (drugs, weapons, volatile, explosive, or noxious substances) or anything that would interfere with school purposes. Any contraband discovered in a locker search is the responsibility of the student to whom the locker is issued.
Student Parking Regulations:

Any vehicle in the student parking lot must display a valid parking sticker.

Students must park in the student parking lot within the painted guidelines of their numbered, assigned space. No students are permitted to park in the lot north of the school.

Spaces reserved for visitors and the handicapped must remain open for their use.

No vehicle may be parked in such a way as to block another vehicle.

School parking lots and all vehicles in them are subject to search or towing without notice if their presence or contents become suspect. No student may refuse access to a vehicle by administrators, security personnel, or law enforcement officers when there is reasonable cause for search of the vehicle of parking lot.

No loitering is allowed in the parking lot. Students are not to sit or stand near cars
Violation of any of these regulations will result in revocation of parking permit and/or towing the vehicle at the owner's expense. Prior notification will not be issued
*Motor Vehicle Law Driving Privileges:
Indiana Code Section 20-8.1-2-17.2 provides than an operator's license or learners permit may not be issued to a person less than (18) years of age who meets any of the following conditions:

Is habitual truant (a student who "willfully refuses to attend school in defiance of parental authority", and/or a student who accumulates a total of ten (10) incidents of unexcused absences, or more per semester, in defiance of parental authority. "Incidents" shall include partial and full day absences)

Is under at least a second suspension from school for the school year
-
Is under an expulsion from school
-
Has withdrawn from school for a reason other that financial hardship, and the withdrawal was reported before graduating.
