SJCPL welcomes the diverse backgrounds that sustain our local community and national identity, and we recognize the strong interest in exploring the past through one’s own lineage. Get started by reading our online how-to guides and beginner genealogy guidebooks, or dig deeper into your past with access to legal record databases, newspaper archives, and special interest books. Talk to a genealogy librarian for assistance in the research process and to learn more about our family history programs and discussion groups. We support all efforts to know and understand family history, and we appreciate the knowledge of the past as a way toward a greater understanding of the present. We are happy to help long-distance or homebound patrons with look-ups for St. Joseph County history facts or newspaper articles. For more information, please download the Obituary and Local History Search form or contact us at 574-282-4621 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are happy to accept donations of your printed family history (with a local connection). We cannot accept research notes or notebooks and most computer files. We covet donations of local high school yearbooks, city directories, books by local authors, histories of local organizations or churches, and other like items.
Donations to support our Local & Family History department are welcomed and appreciated. To make a gift please visit our donation page.
